Pre-treatment of industrial wastewater
: a major environmental and industrial challenge
Pre-treatment of industrial wastewater is a crucial stage in the process of cleaning up industrial effluent.
Beyond the regulatory aspect, which requires compliance with strict standards for the discharge of industrial effluent,
this process offers many advantages for companies, both environmentally and economically. The first phase of pre-treatment consists in removing coarse solids present in the wastewater, such as waste or grease, during the screening stage.
This action is essential to protect treatment plant equipment and prevent clogging of pipes.
The recovered solids can also be recycled in the form of fuels
for industry, or as a supplement for biogas production, thus offering a relevant circular economy solution.
The second pre-treatment stage, sieving, takes the process of removing coarse matter and greasy effluent a step further.
The sieve eliminates all coarse waste above the selected mesh size.
It also separates
some of the sand and grease present in the effluent.Depending on the characteristics of the effluent to be treated, more specific physical-chemical or filtration pretreatments can be implemented.
Filtration and elimination of effluent matter is necessary to treat water either as a single treatment if the problem
is only solids, or as a pretreatment, to prepare effluent for other processes.
Ovive can offer pre-treatment solutions that can be rapidly deployed, as they are available in our equipment pool.
Ovive equipment enables effluent to be prepared for subsequent treatment, and is a compact, self-contained solution.
Ovive curved grate: The grate, formed by welded bars, receives effluent sprayed under pressure by injection nozzles.
The system is installed in a closed box fitted with an inspection hatch.
Ovive internal feed rotary screen: Effluent is fed into the inner part of the drum.
The screened water passes through the orifices, collects at the bottom of the drum and is directed by gravity to the outlet pipe.
Unfiltered particles are conveyed to the end of the drum, where they are collected in the outlet chute.
Ovive external feed rotary screen: All the effluent arrives in the feed tank, rises to the top of the drum, keeping the waste on its periphery and sifting the liquid inwards.
The waste is carried to the front of the screen, where it is lifted off the drum by an external scraper.
The scraper is mounted on a spring assembly to ensure constant pressure on the drum.
Washing ramps, fitted to our Ovive equipment, ensure constant flow rates.
Trials are possible with equipment rental to validate the best solution.
The materials used in our equipment are adapted to different types of effluent (stainless steel, HDPE, etc.) and hot water washing is possible (grease removal).
Pre-treatment is a key step in ensuring the longevity and availability of a treatment plant.
Pre-treatment of industrial wastewater
and REUT:
a long-term ally
Pre-treatment of industrial wastewater is an essential step in the wastewater treatment process prior to Reuse of Treated Wastewater (RWTW).
Pre-treatment consists of a series of essentially physical and chemical processes designed to eliminate, reduce or alter the pollutants present in the water, prior to its passage into more elaborate treatment systems.
This process involves procedures such as screening, coagulation, flocculation and filtration, to name but a few.
These pre-treatment systems are designed to tackle a wide range of particles, from fats and oils to suspended solids, organic substances and certain types of chemical toxins.
Screening, filtration and removal of suspended solids are the first steps, enabling the removal of raw waste, materials and especially substances that could interfere with subsequent treatment processes.
Pre-treatment of industrial wastewater offers a number of undeniable advantages in the context of reuse and recycling.
Firstly, it considerably improves water quality for reuse, whether for industrial operations, agricultural irrigation or groundwater recharge.
Advanced treatment processes are all the more effective because they are protected from the damage that can be caused by untreated solid particles or aggressive chemicals.
This increases the overall efficiency of the treatment system, leading to higher yields and longer system service life.

Finally, industrial wastewater pre-treatment plays a crucial role in reducing the health risks associated with wastewater reuse.
By effectively eliminating harmful and potentially hazardous elements from the outset, it helps ensure safer, higher quality water for reuse.
